3 accused of defamation by former mayor

Many government officials in Ohio and elsewhere may encounter situations that require them to make difficult decisions every day. The choices they make might not always please everyone around them, and in some cases, what starts as a difference of opinion could evolve into allegations of misconduct. A former mayor in another state has filed a lawsuit against three individuals, accusing each party of defamation.

According to the lawsuit, the man asserts that all three individuals knowingly issued false statements concerning his behavior while acting as mayor. He claims that one party sent out numerous text messages accusing him of abusing his power as mayor by firing several city employees without having the necessary authority. He also says that another person accused him of stealing public funds while in office.

The former mayor asserts that each party issued these allegations while knowing the information within was false. He also says that in addition to public statements and text messages, the others started a Facebook page to spread allegations of misconduct. He claims the incident has caused substantial damage to his personal and professional image, and he is seeking restitution through a defamation lawsuit.

Facing false allegations through multiple outlets can be an intimidating process. Those who encounter defamation of this nature may wish to take steps to protect themselves against unnecessary harm, and they could choose to speak with an experienced attorney for guidance on the best course of action with which to proceed. An attorney in Ohio can evaluate the circumstances a client is facing and assist in protecting his or her reputation through the necessary methods.
