Sheriff's deputy claims defamation in lawsuit against two men

Whenever a grudge is present, people often resort to slander in an attempt to tarnish another person's reputation. In some cases, these comments may be uneventful, but there is a line that should not be crossed. People in Ohio often seek to protect themselves when faced with a similar situation. Recently in another state, a lawsuit has been filed against two people accusing them of defamation.

Reportedly, a state representative made claims in a podcast that a sheriff's deputy supplied a firearm to a man who was recently convicted for taking the lives of three people. He claimed to have a source that supplied the information and called for a subsequent investigation. A second person posted statements on Facebook alleging that the deputy was involved in these events as well.

There are records of a long-running feud between the representative and the sheriff's office. The lawsuit claims that the two men are attempting to spread rumors as a result of prior disagreements. The deputy claims to have suffered significant loss to reputation in the process and is seeking compensation through the civil justice system.

Words spoken and/or written online have the ability to reach and influence many people. This type of defamation can damage a person in various ways and can be challenging to overcome. When facing a similar situation, many people in Ohio choose to speak with an attorney for assistance in protecting their reputation. An experienced attorney can assist in the removal of the online content, as well as help prevent any further damage from being done.
